Press Release: Boys in Blue

Friday 26th September 2008

A unique charity art exhibition, BOYS IN BLUE, is bringing together a range of aspiring artists to help raise awareness of prostate cancer – a disease which kills one man every hour in the UK.

The exhibition, which has been sponsored by Artshed Arts Centre and Winsor & Newton, will run from 11 October until the 16 November 2008 and offers artists the opportunity to present their work while helping to raise vital funds for The Prostate Cancer Charity.

Over 300 ready prepared canvasses will form the basis of the exhibition and will be available for purchase for £100 each, with a minimum of 25% going to the Charity.

Exhibition Organiser, Lynne Andrews, explains: “Last year we raised funds to support women affected by breast cancer, and after learning that prostate cancer affects a similar number of men in the UK, this year we decided to do something for the boys. In preparation for the exhibition we sent out over 300 canvasses and asked a range of local artists to contribute. All of the paintings will be original, and because we’ve given the artists freedom to paint in any style or medium they choose, we are looking forward to seeing the results.”

Claire Carlin, Community Fundraising Manager at The Prostate Cancer Charity, said: “Prostate cancer is a disease which kills 10,000 men every year in the UK and the Boys in Blue exhibition is an excellent way for Artshed Arts Centre to help raise awareness of this vital men’s health issue. The funds raised from this exhibition will help The Prostate Cancer Charity to fight prostate cancer on every front -through research, support, information and campaigning.”

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. Each year, 35,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Sponsors
The organisers of this exhibition are also looking for sponsors to pledge to purchase a painting for £100. Buy a ticket for £100, which will entitle you to join us for the evening on the 10 October at Westmill Farm and choose a piece of work.
