Over the course of the 6 weeks, we will work on building our painting and drawing skills to complete an A3 canvas.

We will work in our own dedicated sketchbooks (provided at the start of the course)

Learning how to create a sketch book is so much fun, and a creative skill in its own right (a skill colleges and universities will be looking for)

Developing drawing skills in the first week, looking at how to apply measurements and proportions accurately.

We will investigate shading, using tortillions to create a three-dimensional realistic drawing.

We will experiment using watercolours, learning how we can build colours and mix them to create our desired look.

We will also experiment using pastels, using different colours to layer up, creating depth and weight with the pastels natural characteristics to shade our drawings to create depth in our pieces of artwork.

Finally, we will look at acrylic paint and talk about colour theory and the primary colours, how we can use the three colours to create any desired colour that we want to.

We will use all these skills to create a piece of artwork during the final session on a canvas, using our favourite technique and artistic material.

The workshop will help to build knowledge in each form of art, and we will have artists work who specialise in each medium to look at for inspiration.

In the 1.5 hr session, we always  start with a snack before working on the craft. At the end there is always time for reflection, in this fun and imaginative art class.

All materials and equipment is provided. And all finished pieces of work will be brought home to share and enjoy.

The group is small with a maximum number of 12.

Parents are encouraged to leave the children while the workshop is on, our drop-in craft studio is open while the workshop is running, you are welcome to stay and have a cup of tea or coffee and even enjoy some drop-in crafts yourself!

What they should wear…..

We advise the children to wear some casual clothes you don’t mind them getting messy in. Please provide an art shirt if you like. We have aprons.
