Our pottery courses are perfect for all levels of ability and knowledge, from beginners to advanced our tutor Maria will cover all aspects of hand-building and the basics of throwing and throughout the course you will learn how to use and experiment with our brush on glazes including the use of oxides, stains and under-glazes.
A beginner can expect to learn – creating stamps and textures, pinch pots, coiling, slab work, tiles, throwing on the potters wheel and will use these techniques to make a bowl or vase, a jugs or plate.
An Intermediate can expect to learn about carved relief work, piercing, applique, and throwing on the potters wheel. Looking at texture and appliqué to create a number of vessels. Also developing your knowledge and experimentation of glazes

An Advanced pottery will develop experience and knowledge working with porcelain paper clay, agate ware, scraffito, slip inlay, slip casting, slip trailing, throwing on the potters wheel and an introduction to sculpture. Creating and developing own work using any or a combination of the four methods of working with clay and developing your knowledge and experimentation of glazes.

There are also other projects and techniques that will develop in the class and you’ll enjoy the great relaxed friendly, creative atmosphere too.
Give yourself time and space to be creative with us and tick off a new years resolution! #whatwillyoudoin2019

The course includes basic materials, school buff and terracotta clay, earthenware firing and glazes.

Other clays can be bought from our stock but unfortunately due to kiln capacity no extra pieces made outside of the course sessions can be fired in our kilns.
