We are so happy to be able to bring back our unique Exploring Your Emotions Through Art and Mindfulness workshops.
During this difficult time, it’s never been so important to help support or little ones and what better way to do this promote understanding through art and creativity.
This is an after school art club running for 6 weeks up until half term, 2nd November – 7th December
This course gives your child the opportunity to explore and understand their emotions and feelings and how to deal with them through reflection, creativity and sharing.
Some children come to this class because they love art, some are shy or suffer anxiety, some have ADHD or autism, all are welcome and differences are celebrated. Through our semi-structured creative sessions, the children will feel valued and supported and will be given time and space to be themselves.
Our therapeutic art course is unique, giving children time to explore feelings through creativity and is tutored by an experienced teacher and qualified arts therapist.
We run different projects each week, all designed to teach the children how to begin to understand their emotions, how to talk about their feelings (through the art making for some) whilst helping them to feel confident and supported within the group.
Some projects are repeated in different ways to help exploration and understanding changing feelings.
Working with materials such as: raw clay, plaster, canvases, paints, buttons, wire and glass can benefit the children in many ways, helping them develop different skills which are helpful throughout their childhood.
In the 1.5 hr session, we start with a snack and then discuss any feelings or emotions the children might have had from their week, before working on the craft. At the end there is time for reflection and breathing exercises to promote calmness and reduce tension.
The group is small with a maximum number of 11 in the class of 6-11yr old children.
Parents are encouraged to leave the children while the workshop is on, (we can provide feedback sessions for adults at a later date if requested) our drop-in craft studio is open while the workshop is running, you are welcome to stay and have a cup of tea or coffee and even enjoy some drop-in crafts yourself!
What they should wear…..
We advise the children to wear some casual clothes you don’t mind them getting messy in.
Currently we can’t provide aprons, please could they bring an apron or art shirt to wear as we can’t guarantee they wont get paint on their clothes!
