A fantastically creative and informative look at the skills and techniques needed to create a life size head sculpture using clay over a five week course with Heather Burwell.
Under the tutor’s guidance, students will concentrate on developing the relationship between the head and the clay material whilst considering shape and form, proportion, planes and the tactile quality and handling of clay.
Following a step by step set of sequences you will learn how to accurately
construct a life size head, neck and shoulders.
We will start by building an armature to support and construct the head mass.
We will then use the additive and subtractive method of building up and carving into the clay.
As we progress it is important to consider the head as a whole whilst developing each individual facial feature.
You will learn how to accurately measure and render the proportions of the face to develop a likeness. With the use of various modelling tools and materials the hair will be
constructed and the facial features sharpened and refined.
This course is suitable for beginners in a fun and relaxed environment with
step by step guidance from the tutor.
All equipment, clay and firings are included in the price.
