Learn how to paint and draw expressive portraits using a variety of exciting
materials and unusual techniques.
The focus of the session is to have fun and experiment, really letting those creative juices flow to create vibrant and
expressive works of art. Each week we will look at other artists work to take inspiration for your own creations.
Monochrome Portrait Drawing
To start we will discuss the fundamentals of portrait drawing and experiment with a range of fun practical observational and ‘blind’ sketches, enabling you to accurately observe facial features.
We will then create a variety of different marks and textures using paper rubbings of objects from around the home. This could be anything from a folded piece of paper, cardboard, cereal packets, plastic food packaging, textured wallpaper, toys, utensils, etc – literally anything with a raised surface.
Once you have created a variety of textured papers you will learn how to construct a portrait combining your observational skills with drawing and collage techniques.
This will result in a contemporary and dynamic finished portrait.
Suitable for all abilities.
A Zoom link will be emailed to you the day before the workshop.
This is part of our Expressive Portrait Drawing & Painting bookable as a complete 6 week course or 3 separate 2 week blocks – check out our separate listing to book separately.)
